Berger Paints Bangladesh offers career prospects for UCB students

In efforts to ensure a successful and prosperous future for students, Universal College Bangladesh (UCB) of the STS Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited. The MoU was signed at the Berger House, in the capital’s Uttara on Thursday, according to a press release. High officials representing both parties, Manas Singh, CEO of STS Group; S M Rahmatul Mujeeb, FCA – Chief Financial Officer of STS Capital Ltd; S M Risalat Rahman, Assistant Manager of Universal College Bangladesh (UCB); Rupali Haque Chowdhury, Managing Director, Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited; and Mushfequr Rahman, Chief HR Admin & HSE Officer, Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited were present at the event. Bridging the industry-academia gap, this partnership with Berger will present UCB students with a unique opportunity to gain practical insights from industry experts, while exploring future employment prospects with the acclaimed employer, it said. UCB students can now benefit from enhanced employment opportunities such as internships, placements, and training programs under Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited. Additionally, a series of knowledge-sharing initiatives is scheduled to take place, featuring guest lectures, career guidance, and mentoring sessions conducted by Berger, the release added. Such a collaboration between UCB and Berger is aimed at propelling young students towards their career development goals, further solidifying the synergy between academics and industry-oriented skills. একুশ শতকের পৃথিবীতে একটি জাতি যদি ভবিষ্যতে চোখ রেখে নিজেদের প্রস্তুত করতে চায়, তাহলে উন্নত মানবসম্পদের কোনো বিকল্প নেই। আজ আন্তর্জাতিক শিক্ষা দিবসে এ কথা বলাই যায়, বাংলাদেশে যাঁরা শিক্ষা খাত নিয়ে কাজ করেন, এ দেশের বিপুল জনসংখ্যাকে সম্পদে রূপান্তর করাই হওয়া উচিত তাঁদের অগ্রাধিকার। তরুণদের বৈশ্বিক মানসম্পন্ন শিক্ষাদানের মাধ্যমেই এই লক্ষ্য অর্জন সম্ভব। বাংলাদেশে ১৫ থেকে ২৯ বছর বয়সীদের সংখ্যা দেশের মোট জনসংখ্যার ২৮ শতাংশ। তাঁরাই তো দেশের অর্থনৈতিক উন্নয়নের প্রধান চালিকাশক্তি, তাঁদের মধ্যেই লুকিয়ে আছে অমিত সম্ভাবনা। এই তরুণদের কাজে লাগাতে হলে শিক্ষার মানের ক্ষেত্রে সারা বিশ্বের সঙ্গে তাল মেলানো খুব জরুরি। তাই শিক্ষায় বিনিয়োগ হতে হবে কৌশলগত। শুধু শিক্ষাগত দক্ষতা অর্জনে জোর দিলেই চলবে না, বরং প্রত্যেক শিক্ষার্থীর ব্যক্তিগত উন্নয়নের প্রতিও নজর দিতে হবে। প্রতিযোগিতামূলক আন্তর্জাতিক বাজারে টিকে থাকতে হলে কারিগরি প্রশিক্ষণ ও দক্ষতা উন্নয়নের গুরুত্ব সবচেয়ে বেশি। প্রগতিশীল বাজারের চাহিদার সঙ্গে তাল মেলাতে হলে তাই তরুণদের শুধু একাডেমিক দক্ষতা থাকলেই হবে না, ব্যবহারিক দক্ষতাও অর্জন করতে হবে। এতে শুধু চাকরি পেতে সুবিধা হবে, তা নয়; বরং তাঁরা ভবিষ্যতের পৃথিবী গঠনে শিল্প ও প্রযুক্তি খাতে ভূমিকা রাখতে পারবেন। তরুণদের বৈশ্বিক মানসম্পন্ন শিক্ষার মাধ্যমে তৈরি করার সময় কিন্তু পেরিয়ে যাচ্ছে। বিচক্ষণতার সঙ্গে ভাবতে পারে, নির্ভয়ে নতুন কিছু তৈরি করে, আর ভবিষ্যতের চাহিদার কথা মাথায় রেখে পরিবর্তনের সঙ্গে খাপ খাওয়াতে পারে—এমন একটি প্রজন্ম গড়ে তোলা দরকার। এ কথা মানতেই হবে যে মানসম্পন্ন শিক্ষার পেছনে বিনিয়োগ করা মানে দেশ ও সমাজের জন্য সুন্দর ভবিষ্যৎ নিশ্চিত করা। কেননা, বিশ্বমানের যোগ্যতা ও দক্ষতাসম্পন্ন তরুণেরাই দেশের অর্থনৈতিক ও সামাজিক উন্নয়নে ভূমিকা রাখবেন। সুখবর হলো, বাংলাদেশের শিক্ষার্থীদের আন্তর্জাতিক মানসম্পন্ন শিক্ষাদানের মতো প্রতিষ্ঠান এখন এ দেশে আছে। শিক্ষার্থীরা যেন আন্তর্জাতিক মানসম্পন্ন শিক্ষা গ্রহণ করে বিশ্বনাগরিক হিসেবে সফল পেশাজীবন গড়তে পারে, সে লক্ষ্যে ইউনিভার্সাল কলেজ বাংলাদেশ (ইউসিবি) এগিয়ে এসেছে। শিক্ষা মন্ত্রণালয়ের অনুমোদনে দেশের শিক্ষার্থীদের সামনে বৈশ্বিক সুযোগ হাজির করছে এই শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠান। মোনাশ কলেজ ও ইউনিভার্সিটি অব লন্ডনের সঙ্গে আমাদের বিশেষ পার্টনারশিপ আছে। ফলে মোনাশ ইউনিভার্সিটি ফাউন্ডেশন ইয়ারের (এমইউএফওয়াই) মতো প্রোগ্রাম পরিচালনার পাশাপাশি লন্ডন স্কুল অব ইকোনমিকসের একাডেমিক দিকনির্দেশনার সুযোগও আমরা পাচ্ছি। বিশ্ব মানে পৌঁছানোর প্রয়োজনীয়তাকে অগ্রাধিকার না দেওয়ার কোনো সুযোগ নেই। কেননা, দেশে কিংবা দেশের বাইরে সবচেয়ে ভালো কাজ করতে গেলে সাংস্কৃতিক সচেতনতা ও বিশ্বমানের দক্ষতা—দুটিই জরুরি। আমাদের শিক্ষার্থীরা বৃত্তি, আন্তর্জাতিক পর্যায়ের শীর্ষ শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠানগুলোর সঙ্গে অংশীদারত্ব এবং বিশ্ব মানের প্রোগ্রামের মাধ্যমে ইউসিবিতে যে জ্ঞান অর্জন করেন, তা কোনো সীমানায় আবদ্ধ নয়। নানা ধরনের দক্ষতা অর্জন করেন বলেই বৈশ্বিক পর্যায়ে তাঁদের গ্রহণযোগ্যতা যথেষ্ট পরিমাণ বাড়ে। সেরা মানের শিক্ষা আমরা নিয়ে এসেছি ঢাকায়। ফলে শিক্ষার্থীরা দেশে পড়ালেখা করেই বৈশ্বিক পর্যায়ে পৌঁছে যেতে পারে। আন্তর্জাতিক বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়গুলোর তুলনায় ইউসিবির প্রোগ্রামগুলোতে টিউশন ফি কম। যেহেতু দেশেই শিক্ষার্থীরা পড়তে পারেন, তাই বিদেশে যাওয়া-আসা কিংবা থাকার খরচও প্রয়োজন হয় না। যাঁরা বিদেশে উচ্চশিক্ষা নিতে চান, তাঁদের পরীক্ষার প্রস্তুতি, বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে আবেদন, ভিসা প্রক্রিয়াকরণ, আর্থিক সহায়তা এবং পরামর্শও দেয় ইউসিবি।   Published in: 24onbd

MUFY orientation prog held at UCB

Universal College Bangladesh on Sunday successfully concluded the orientation programme for its Monash University Foundation Year January intake. Marking the commencement of the year’s first batch, the MUFY orientation programme was held on UCB campus at Gulshan in Dhaka, said a press release. The event began with introductory speeches by professor Muhammad Ismail Hossain, dean of academic affairs, and professor Hew Gill, president and provost at UCB. The event progressed with insightful speeches by Daniel Lum from international recruitment and development of Monash University Malaysia, and Azra Karim, in-country representative from Monash Australia. The speeches were followed by sessions targeted to familiarise students and guardians with UCB and the MUFY programme. Students and guardians are to note that though the orientation programme for MUFY January 2024 Intake is over, UCB will continue to keep the admission window open till February 2, 2024. Prof Hew Gill said that at UCB they looked forward to working together to take the students closer to their own unique goals. UCB is the exclusive partner of Monash College, Australia, and the first education ministry-approved international education provider in Bangladesh. Her research interest lies in the field of genomic epidemiology of infectious diseases. Her contribution in several local and international research projects have led to publications in several highly ranked peer-reviewed journals including BMC Genomics, Nature Scientific Reports, Science and FEMS Microbiology Letters.

Nahida Parvin

Ms Farin is the founder of the education platform, One Circle. She is a certified mental health first aider and a life coach. She has extensive experience in the life-skills education sector, working in various schools and non-profit organizations in London and Dhaka. She is the author of the Tara and Joy children’s book series. The first book of this series called “Tara and Joy: Body Safety” is available now both in Bengali and English version.

She worked in the hall committee, conference committee at the University of Nottingham; teaching and learning subcommittee, and program coordinator in the Monash College MCD program at UCB. She worked in industry and had several engineering and research training at home and abroad.

Prof. Muhammad Ismail Hossain

Professor & Dean of Academic Affairs

Muhammad Ismail Hossain is a Professor and Dean of Academic Affairs, Monash & LSE Program at Universal College Bangladesh. He is on leave from his earlier appointment as Professor of Marketing at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Prof. Hossain received his Ph.D. in consumer behavior from Monash University, Australia. He is an MBA from the University of Dhaka and also has a Master’s degree in International Business from the University of Melbourne, Australia. His research interests lie in the fields of tourism, consumer behavior, and supply chain management. He is one of the co-authors of the book Social Media Storms: Empowering Leadership beyond Crisis Management published by Routledge. He has more than 50 publications including books, research monographs, journal articles, newspaper articles, and keynote papers. His work has been published in many international high-impact journals such as the Journal of Supply Chain Management, Journal of Travel Research, Tourism Recreation Research, Current Issues in Tourism, International Journal of Tourism Research, and Journal of City, Culture, and Society among others. He is an editorial board member of the Journal of Travel Research, the leading tourism journal in the world. He has received a notable amount of external research funding locally as well as internationally as part of various international and local research groups. The value of such local and international funding is BDT 1.06 crores and USD 827,873 respectively. As a consultant, he worked for government projects, not-for-profits, and for-profit local and international organizations.
