Mr. Manas Singh

Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Manas Singh is the CEO of STS Group’s educational initiatives in Bangladesh, managing premium K12 schools like ISD, DPS STS, Glenrich as well as Universal College Bangladesh in the higher education category. Prior to joining STS Group at Bangladesh, he was leading India’s top educational enterprises namely Radcliffe, Ampersand and PeopleCombine Group as CEO/CMO.

Manas brings with him more than 20+ years of rich experience in leading businesses and developing customer relationships in the technology and education industry. He has also worked in one of world’s largest technology company, Dell Technologies, in various roles like GTM strategy, Sales, branding, pricing, and customer analytics supporting and growing multi-million-dollar business in the UK/Ireland SME market for Dell. In the field of education, he has diverse experience ranging from coaching industry, K12 Schools to Higher Education where he has developed educational products and strengthened stakeholder relationships.

An Air Force School pass out, Manas went on to do his Electronics & Communication Engineering from Bangalore. He also holds an MBA Degree in Marketing and IT from Xavier Institute of Management, India.

Manas strongly believes in power of building strong teams and using robust data analytics to guide these teams towards achieving common business goals. In his personal life, he is an avid reader with further interests in sports, politics, and social welfare. He is also a passionate animal lover and feels strongly about animal rights

GOVERNANCE & LEADERSHIP

UCBD is governed by a distinguished Board of Directors who are all prominent in the public and commercial life of Bangladesh.  The Board is chaired by Mr Bob Kundanmal, the renowned business personality whose commercial, financial and philanthropic interests stretch across the Asia Pacific region.

Prof. Hew Gill

President & Provost

Professor Hew Gill has spent most of his career as a global entrepreneur and business leader, and has also held public office and worked in international banking and the media. He has served as a chair, governor, trustee and lay member of various educational, charitable and professional organisations in the UK, Singapore and Malaysia.

Professor Gill studied at several world-class institutions including St Anne’s College, Oxford University, Leeds University Business School, and the Derek Bok Center, Harvard University. His research interests are primarily focused on the structure of human personality and related brain systems, and education. Professor Gill is a UK Chartered Psychologist, Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society, Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society and a member of many other learned societies including the American, British, Malaysian and Singaporean Psychological Societies.

Prof. Muhammad Ismail Hossain

Dean of Academic Affairs

Muhammad Ismail Hossain is a Professor and Dean of Academic Affairs, Monash & LSE Program at Universal College Bangladesh. He is on leave from his earlier appointment as Professor of Marketing at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Prof. Hossain received his Ph.D. in consumer behavior from Monash University, Australia. He is an MBA from the University of Dhaka and also has a Master’s degree in International Business from the University of Melbourne, Australia.

His research interests lie in the fields of tourism, consumer behavior, and supply chain management. He is one of the co-authors of the book Social Media Storms: Empowering Leadership beyond Crisis Management published by Routledge. He has more than 50 publications including books, research monographs, journal articles, newspaper articles, and keynote papers. His work has been published in many international high-impact journals such as the Journal of Supply Chain Management, Journal of Travel Research, Tourism Recreation Research, Sustainability, Current Issues in Tourism, International Journal of Tourism Research, and Journal of City, Culture, and Society among others. He is an editorial board member of the Journal of Travel Research, the leading tourism journal in the world.

He has received a notable amount of external research funding locally as well as internationally as part of various international and local research groups. The value of such local and international funding is BDT 1.06 crores and USD 827,873 respectively. As a consultant, he worked for government projects, not-for-profits, and for-profit local and international organizations.

Mr Shafik Waes

Head of Registry

Shafik Waes is Head of the Registry, and Academic Administration at Universal College Bangladesh. He received his BSS and MSS degrees in Social Sciences from University of Dhaka. He held different positions at reputed private universities including Brac University and East-West University, particularly at the office of the Registrar in the academic registry, and examinations office for the last twenty years as a Deputy Controller of Examinations and a Deputy Registrar respectively.

He has substantial work experience in managing academic affairs as well as institutional quality assurance at the tertiary level of education.

Mr. Kingshuk Gupta

Chief Operating Officer

Kingshuk Gupta is the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Universal College Bangladesh, where he plays a crucial role in shaping and implementing the college’s strategic vision. With over two decades of experience in educational management and operational leadership, Kingshuk has a distinguished track record of driving institutional growth and achieving excellence.

As COO, Kingshuk oversees the day-to-day operations of the college, ensuring that both academic and administrative functions align with the institution’s strategic objectives. His role encompasses optimizing operational efficiency, enhancing the experiences of students and faculty, managing P&L responsibilities, and leading initiatives that support the college’s mission to provide high-quality education.

Prior to his current role, Kingshuk held senior positions at prominent organizations such as Global School Group (Singapore), Vibgyor Group of Schools (India), Adamas University (India), and Maya Entertainment Ltd (India). His extensive background includes notable achievements in organizational development, financial management, and project implementation, showcasing his exceptional leadership and strategic insight.

Kingshuk holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree from IMI, Belgium, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from London Metropolitan University. His academic credentials, combined with his practical experience, make him a key asset to the executive team at Universal College Bangladesh.

Sheikh Mohammad Arafat

Head of Finance

Part Qualified Chartered Accountant & Income Tax Practitioner (ITP)

Sheikh Mohammad Arafat is a skilled and experienced professional in the field of accounting and finance. He holds a certification as an Income Tax Practitioner (ITP) and is a part-qualified Chartered Accountant. He completed his Master’s in Accounting from the National University of Bangladesh.

With over 15 years of extensive experience in the industry, Sheikh Mohammad has worked with some of the most reputable organizations and projects in Bangladesh, including EDISON Group (SYMPHONY Mobile), NAGAD, Bashundhara Group, and the prestigious Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project. His experience spans across various domains such as Financial Reporting, Budget Preparation and Control, Banking Operations, Digital Payment Systems, Audit Management, and Company Secretarial Affairs.

He possesses a deep understanding of corporate finance and accounting and has consistently demonstrated his ability to manage complex financial processes and systems. Sheikh Mohammad is also well-versed in managing internal and external audits and ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks. His strategic insights and hands-on expertise in financial management have made him a valuable asset to every organization and project he has been a part of.

Mr. Pankaj Puri

Head of Enrollement

Mr. Puri brings 16 years of extensive expertise in Education Management, Student Recruitment, Sales, and Marketing. In his recent role as Assistant Director – Marketing & Admissions at Rayat Bahra University, he successfully led nationwide and international recruitment campaigns. His leadership in traditional marketing, digital marketing, lead management, and strategic partnerships has significantly contributed to institutional growth.Throughout his career, he has held key positions at ICFAI University, Pune Institute of Business Management, Adept Institute of Education, and Smarttalk Netcom Pvt. Ltd., excelling in business development, team training, and marketing strategy execution. His expertise extends to counseling, student retention, channel partner management, and stakeholder collaboration.

Academically, Mr. Puri holds an Executive PG Certificate in Digital Marketing & Analytics from IIT Roorkee and an Executive Programme in Marketing Analytics from IIM Lucknow, both of which are among the top institutions in India. He has also completed a Postgraduate Program in Planning and Entrepreneurship (Marketing) from IIPM, New Delhi and a Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) from Punjabi University.

Md. Mahfuzur Rahman

AGM- Human Resource

Md. Mahfuzur Rahman is a highly experienced human resources professional with over 17 years in the education sector. He possesses a comprehensive understanding of university governance, practices, and regulations. His expertise spans talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation, and performance management, particularly within prestigious private universities. Before his current role at UCB, he dedicated a decade to BRAC University’s HR department, where he crafted and implemented HR strategies that significantly contributed to the institution’s goals and objectives. Mahfuz is committed to transforming and enhancing HR practices through strategic and innovative leadership.

With over ten years in managerial positions, Mahfuz excels at making administrative and procedural decisions on sensitive and confidential matters. He has successfully led and managed teams, collaborated with senior executives and stakeholders, and fostered a positive and productive organizational culture. His extensive experience includes formulating and implementing HR policies and procedures, succession planning, managing operations, and overseeing hiring, training, and staff development.

Academically, Mahfuz holds an Executive Master of Business Administration in HRM from BRAC University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management from the Bangladesh Institute of Management.
